Polk County Fire Rescue Has a Busy 24 Hours

Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) responded to a commercial structure fire in unincorporated Lakeland, and a mass casualty motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy 60 W/Pine Grove Rd. in 24 hours.

On Monday, May 8 at 4:29 p.m., PCFR responded to a large commercial structure fire located on Main Ave in Lakeland. When crews arrived on scene, an industrial storage shed within the building was on fire and the fire was spreading to an adjoining shed. Crews made an aggressive interior attack on the fire to prevent further property damage.

Fourteen PCFR crews responded to the scene. Despite the size of the fire, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Polk County Fire Rescue and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle crash around 5:41 a.m. today at the intersection of Hwy 60 West/Pine Grove Road in Mulberry. Upon PCFR’s initial arrival on scene, crews determined that there was one confirmed fatality and seven adult trauma alert patients that would need to be treated. Due to the number of trauma alert patients, the crash was classified as a Level 1 Multiple Casualty Incident. This required 15 PCFR crews responding to the scene.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the crash. Any questions regarding the crash should be directed to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
