Lakeland Regional Health has recently welcomed the following new providers to the medical staff. All providers listed below are accepting patients for care. Bariatric Surgery – Matthew Nier, DO Dr. Matthew Nier specializes in bariatric and metabolic care, with a focus on both surgical and medical weight-loss treatments. His clinical expertise includes minimally invasive and robotic bariatric surgery, endoscopic weight-loss procedures, revisional bariatric surgery, and comprehensive medical weight management. He also treats obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, reflux disease, and metabolic syndrome, with an emphasis on long-term health and sustainable outcomes. Nier earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Midwestern University and completed a residency in general surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital, followed by a bariatric surgery fellowship at Inova Health System. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Family Medicine – Melissa Welch, APRN Melissa Welch, APRN, is an advanced practice registered nurse specializing in primary care. She brings more than 25 years of clinical experience across a wide range of care settings, including primary care, critical care, urgent care, general surgery, plastic surgery, aesthetics, oculoplastic surgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, psychiatry, and addiction medicine. Welch earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Florida Southern College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Keiser University, and an Associate of Science in Nursing from Polk State College. Psychiatry – Mark Weisman Jr., MD Dr. Mark Weisman Jr. is a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience in outpatient behavioral healthcare, medication management, psychotherapy, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). He treats adults with a wide range of conditions, including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, and peripartum challenges. Weisman earned his Doctor of Medicine from Marshall University and completed a residency in general psychiatry at the University of South Florida. Bourne completed fellowship training in head and neck oncologic and microvascular surgery at Moffitt Cancer Center and earned her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. She also completed post-baccalaureate work at Arizona State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt University.
