Lakeland Regional Health Welcomes New Providers

Lakeland Regional Health recently welcomed the following new providers to the medical staff. All providers listed below are accepting patients for care.

 

Cardiology – Joel Fernandez, MD

Dr. Joel Fernandez is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiologist with decades of experience both as a practicing physician and a faculty member of the Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He specializes in advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, and cardiomyopathies, with a focus on cardiac amyloidosis and nuclear cardiology.

Fernandez earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed his residency and fellowship in cardiology at the Morsani College of Medicine at USF. At LRH, he is the medical director for heart failure services and director of the LRH cardiology graduate medical education program.

He cares for patients at the Medical Center and the Pablo Campus. For appointments, patients should call 863.284.5020.

 

Cardiology – Jeffrey Williams, MD

Dr. Jeffrey Williams is board-certified in cardiology, electrophysiology, and internal medicine with decades of experience. He assists patients with the management of heart failure. He also treats heart rhythm disorders such as tachycardias, including atrial fibrillation, and performs electrophysiology studies/ablation, as well as pacemaker and defibrillator implantations.

Williams has served as a faculty member in several academic institutions, including the James A. Haley VA Medical Center at the University of South Florida in Tampa, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and others. He earned his medical degree at Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He also holds a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering.

Dermatology – David Murray, MD, FAAD

Dr. David Murray is a board-certified, fellowship-trained physician specializing in dermatology and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Murray earned a bachelor’s degree at Oregon State University and a medical degree at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center. He trained as an undersea medical officer at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute and served as a diving medical officer, attached to the naval hospital of Pearl Harbor and then to a mobile diving and salvage unit. He completed his residency in dermatology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. As a captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve, he served on staff at the Naval Hospital in Orlando.

A fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, Murray sees patients at the Plant City clinic. For appointments, patients should call 813.365.3863.

 

Family Medicine – Thomas Clem, DO

Dr. Thomas Clem specializes in family medicine. He focuses on both preventive health measures and caring for acute conditions. His clinical interests include the management of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as an interest in mental health and men’s health.

Clem earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology from the University of South Florida. He previously served as Chief Resident of Family Medicine for two years at the University of Florida.

He serves as a member of the core faculty of the Family Medicine Graduate Medical Education program and sees patients at the Kathleen campus. For appointments, patients should call 863.687.1302.

 

Family Medicine – Janelle Ramcharan, DO

Dr. Janelle Ramcharan specializes in family medicine. While she has a special interest in pediatrics and women’s health, she enjoys caring for all ages, from newborns to the elderly. She understands how family dynamics can shape each person’s health journey, and she enjoys working with families to improve their overall health.

Ramcharan earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from the Florida International University in Miami and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. She completed a family medicine residency at the University of Michigan Health-West.

Internal Medicine – Leyla Aponte, MD

Dr. Leyla Aponte is a board-certified physician specializing in internal medicine. She has extensive experience in management of chronic conditions, such as obesity, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus and others.

Aponte earned her medical degree at the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She has served as a faculty member, program director and supervising attending physician within the USF College of Medicine.

In addition to working with graduate medical education students at the Medical Center, Dr. Aponte cares for patients at the Morrell Clinic. For appointments, patients should call 863.284.5000.

 

Internal Medicine – Aarti Lamba, MD

Dr. Aarti Lamba is a board-certified physician specializing in internal medicine. She focuses on providing clear diagnoses, personalized treatment plans and preventive health measures. She advocates for coordinated care to support her patients’ long-term health outcomes.

Lamba earned her medical degree and completed her internal medicine board certification at Albany Medical College. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Lamba has held multiple leadership roles during her career.

Orthopedic Surgery & Oncology – Timothy Evans, MD

Dr. Timothy Evans is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and oncologist. He specializes in total joint replacement and the treatment of cancers of the bone and soft tissues.

Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Evans earned his medical degree at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and pursued a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida. Evans also holds a master’s degree in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

Orthopedic Surgery – Olukemi Fajolu, MD

Dr. Olukemi Fajolu is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper-extremity surgery. She focuses on helping her patients regain as much function as possible with evidence-based, advanced surgical techniques.

Fajolu earned her Doctor of Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. She completed her residency in orthopedic surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. She then pursued a fellowship in orthopedic hand surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center-Harvard Medical School in Boston and an additional fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in both orthopedic and hand surgery, Fajolu sees patients at the Edgewood Orthopedics location. For appointments, patients should call 863.666.3436.

 

Orthopedic Surgery - Stuart Patterson, MD, FRCSC, FAAOS

Dr. Stuart Patterson is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with extensive international training and decades of experience in upper extremity, hand and reconstructive microsurgery. He specializes in complex upper limb procedures, including advanced elbow, hand and wrist surgeries, with additional expertise in trauma and reconstructive techniques.

Patterson earned his medical degree at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, where he also completed his clerkship. Following his internship at the University of Natal’s Addington Hospital in Durban, South Africa, he completed his orthopedic residency at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. He pursued two years of postgraduate fellowships in upper extremity reconstructive surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital (University of Toronto) and in hand and microsurgery at Florida Orthopaedic Institute and USF.

He further refined his expertise in elbow reconstructive surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In addition to being a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), Patterson is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Pediatrics – Alina Stanica, MD

Dr. Alina Stanica is a board-certified pediatrician. In addition to following the latest guidelines and recommendations, she encourages families to actively participate in shaping the health and education of the future generation.

Stanica earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in her hometown of Timisoara, Romania. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Flushing, New York, and has been in practice for 15 years post-residency.

Rheumatology – Cristine Arcilla, MD

Dr. Cristine Arcilla is board-certified in internal medicine and specializing in rheumatology. She employs her knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and a background in physical therapy to improve diagnostic evaluations and decide on the best course of treatment for her patients.

Arcilla earned her Doctor of Medicine at the University of the City of Manila School of Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in New Jersey and a fellowship in rheumatology through the American College of Rheumatology. Dr. Arcilla also was a diplomate of the Philippine Board of Anatomy and earned a master’s degree in public management in the Philippines.

Behavioral Health – Kamila Maldonado, LMHC

Kamila Maldonado, LMHC, is a licensed mental health counselor with experience working with a diverse population of patients, including children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder or who are survivors of trauma/abuse. She has also worked with patients with eating disorders, addictions, psychosis, and other psychotic disorders, as well as geriatric psychoeducational groups. Maldonado earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida International University in Miami and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Albizu University in Doral.

Gastroenterology – Elizabeth Mor Araque, APRN

Elizabeth Mor Araque, APRN, is a board-certified advanced practice registered nurse specializing in gastroenterology. She has experience in assisting with gastroenterology procedures, such as colonoscopies. She has also worked in oncology, family medicine, and hospice care. Araque earned her master’s degree in nursing at South University in Tampa and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Myers.

Orthopedics – John Long, PA-C

John Long, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant with a strong foundation in orthopedic medicine, acute care, and patient-centered treatment. He is highly skilled in diagnostic interpretation, surgical first-assist techniques, and developing personalized treatment plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes. His clinical expertise includes wound management and assisting in advanced orthopedic and general surgeries.

Long earned a master’s degree from Barry University and a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of South Florida.

Orthopedics – Michelle Giampoala, APRN

Michelle Giampoala, APRN, is an advanced practice registered nurse specializing in orthopedic care and orthopedic surgery. Her clinical expertise also includes gastroenterology and perioperative services. She has more than 25 years’ nursing experience. Giampoala earned her master’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Florida Southern College.

Orthopedics – Kelly Roberts, APRN

Kelly Roberts, APRN, is an advanced practice registered nurse specializing in orthopedic care. Her clinical expertise includes casting, X-ray interpretation, assisting with invasive and non-invasive pain management techniques, patient counseling on therapeutic regimens and perioperative care in surgical settings.

Roberts earned her master’s degree in nursing from Florida Southern College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Pediatrics – Brittney Robinson, APRN

Brittney Robinson, APRN, is an advanced practice registered nurse specializing in pediatrics. In addition to preventive and primary care, she has experience treating children in a variety of clinical settings, including gastroenterology, otolaryngology (ENT) and acute care. She is dedicated to partnering with patients and their families, creating an open dialogue, and offering guidance that helps them take an active role in their health.

Robinson earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Florida in Gainesville, then completed her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
