Breast Cancer Foundation of Central Florida Receives $5,000 Impact Polk Grant from GiveWell Community Foundation

Lakeland, FL — The Breast Cancer Foundation of Central Florida (BCFCF) has been awarded a $5,000 Impact Polk Grant funded by the George W. Jenkins Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation. The grant supports BCFCF’s mission to provide fast, local, non-medical financial assistance to individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment in Central Florida.

“This is such a proud moment for our team,” said Ashley Lloyd, Executive Director at BCFCF. “As a newly approved 501(c)(3), this grant means the world to us. It’s not just about the dollars—it’s about what those dollars do. They help a mother keep her lights on during chemo, or help a survivor travel to lifesaving treatment.”

Founded in 2017 and newly established as an independent nonprofit in 2024, BCFCF is the only local organization offering urgent, non-medical financial relief to breast cancer patients across Polk County. The organization provides assistance for rent, utilities, transportation, groceries, and other basic needs during treatment. It's also started a large group of women in pink to come together- survivors, patients, volunteers, and more.

“We’re grateful to GiveWell and the George W. Jenkins Fund for believing in our work and helping us continue serving our community with dignity, speed, and compassion,” said Alisa Mitchell, BCFCF Board Secretary. “This grant helps us move one step closer to our vision: that no one has to face breast cancer alone—or go without basic needs while they fight to survive.”

This is one of the first grants awarded directly to BCFCF since receiving its independent 501(c)(3) designation. The funding will help BCFCF fill gaps that no one else assists with.
