The Lakeland Public Library, located at 100 Lake Morton Drive, will be temporarily closed for three days from Monday, January 27 through Wednesday, January 29, 2025. During the closure, staff will be relocating Youth Services collections and furniture back into the building from an offsite location. This closure follows significant updates to the children’s area, including new flooring, ceiling, lighting, HVAC system, fresh paint, and new furniture. The updates mark the completion of a multi-year comprehensive construction project that has enhanced the entire facility. While the library is closed, the book drop will remain available, and patrons can pick up reserved items curbside. To schedule a curbside pickup, please call 863-834-4263 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The library is eager to unveil the newly renovated space and looks forward to welcoming visitors when it reopens on Thursday, January 30, 2025. For more information, please contact Library Administration at 863-834-4270. The Lakeland Public Library is a member of the Polk County Library Cooperative, an interlocal agreement between 13 municipalities with public libraries and the Board of County Commissioners, enabling all residents of the county, including those in the unincorporated area, to have library services. The Lakeland Public Library opened in January 1927 on the shores of Lake Morton. Prior to that time the Woman's Club, organized in 1912, maintained a library for residents. On September 21, 1965, construction for a new building began and formal opening for the new library was on April 20, 1966. Through the decades, this building has been renovated and expanded to better serve the citizens of Lakeland.
