The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study for proposed improvements to US 92 (Memorial Boulevard) from Walker Avenue to State Road (SR) 33 (Lakeland Hills Boulevard) in Polk County. This PD&E Study is a product of the Lakeland Area Alternatives Analysis (LAAA) Study and the Corridor Action Plan (CAP). US 92 (Memorial Boulevard) is a priority corridor, and the study will explore ways to incorporate complete street enhancements including lane repurposing (a reduction from 6 lanes to 4 lanes to incorporate on-road bicycle lanes, a landscaped median and wide pedestrian sidewalks on both sides of the street) and traffic operation improvements along the corridor. In addition to these proposed improvements, the project will also review opportunities to consolidate driveways, make stormwater improvements, and enhance areas to better meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. The project is approximately 0.7 miles in length. The PD&E Study will evaluate and document potential engineering and natural, physical, socioeconomic, and cultural environmental effects of the proposed improvements. FDOT is conducting the PD&E Study in accordance with requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act and other applicable federal and state laws and regulations. If you have questions or comments about the project, please contact the FDOT project manager, Steven A. Andrews, at (863) 519-2270 or Steven.Andrews@dot.state.fl.us. Additional information can be found on the project webpage at https://www.swflroads.com/project/445930-1. FDOT solicits public participation without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, or family status. People who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or who require translation services (free of charge) should contact Cynthia Sykes, District One Title VI Coordinator, at (863) 519-2287, or e-mail at Cynthia.Sykes@dot.state.fl.us. The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by FDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. §327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated May 26, 2022, and executed by FHWA and FDOT.
