Presenting Hoops for Hunger: Lakeland Magic in the Community

Did you know your favorite city has an NBA Affiliate team nestled into the heart of Downtown Lakeland? Housed in the RP Funding Center, the Lakeland Magic and their mascot Swish host a fun-filled basketball season every year from November to March. This season may be winding down, but you still have a chance to be part of something magical: Hoops for Hunger presented by Mosaic! The Hoops for Hunger program was created as a fundraiser for providing meals to local children in need. Established to benefit KidsPACK and One More Child, Mosaic will donate $200 for every three-point shot made within the 2022-2023 regular season’s home games. This year’s Hoops for Hunger specialty game will be held on March 21, 2023, at 7 PM versus the Long Island Nets.

After last year’s season, the team made 277 three-point shots during their home games, totaling to an amount of $55,400 donated to local nonprofits targeting food insecurity. Since the program began, Mosaic and Lakeland Magic have worked together to raise over $145,000 for KidsPack and One More Child, with even more upcoming from this year. This season, there are hopes of more three-pointers than ever before, with 195 already made as of March 2!

In addition to Lakeland Magic’s partnership with Mosaic, they also have been heavily involved in the local Lakeland community through volunteering at the Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine Food Pantry and visiting our local schools. Team members took the time to read to our students at Highlands Grove Elementary, Cleveland Court Elementary and Dixieland Elementary. Because of the support the Lakeland Magic receives from the community, the team makes every effort to return the support to our community.

You won’t want to miss this season’s Hoops for Hunger game is on March 21. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a replica Hoops for Hunger jersey courtesy of Mosaic. Come watch the final game of the season and join the fight against childhood hunger today!
