Dennis A. Ross, a retired U.S. Congressman and political science professor at Southeastern University (SEU), published his autobiography, “Reaching Across the Aisle: Reflections on My Experiences in Politics” on January 16, 2024. Ross shares his journey into politics, from running his future wife’s campaign for class president in high school to being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for four consecutive terms. He discusses his observations on the political divide and offers solutions based on his experiences working with members of differing parties. Ross also shares his unique experiences in politics, including flying on Air Force One with former President Donald J. Trump. Ross was born and raised in Lakeland, Florida. He graduated with a B.A. from Auburn University and received his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. Ross was elected to Congress in 2010, where he represented Florida’s 12th and 15th District for a total of eight years. He retired from Congress in 2019 and became the director of the American Center for Public Leadership (ACPL) at SEU in Lakeland, Florida, where he also serves as a distinguished professor of political science.
