This presidential election year, only the Republican party will hold a presidential preference primary on March 19th, and Supervisor of Elections Lori Edwards reminds voters to double check their party affiliation in advance. Florida is a Closed Primary state. According to Florida law, voters may vote in a party's primary only if they are registered members of that party prior to the closing of registration, 29 days prior to Election Day. “It’s easy to change your party affiliation if you want to participate in the Republican Presidential Preference Primary election, but you must make the change before the February 20th deadline”, Ms. Edwards explained.
