Southeastern University (SEU) will hold its Fall 2023 Commencement ceremony on Friday, December 9, at 5 p.m. at Victory Field on its main Lakeland campus. The ceremony will feature guest speaker Greg Surratt, founding pastor of Seacoast Church. As the university’s 86th graduating class, the class of 2023 is made up of 573 graduates — bringing SEU’s total number of graduates up to 23,773. There will be 415 graduates participating in the ceremony with 257 graduates coming from 59 of SEU’s partner site locations. Of the graduates, 294 originate from the state of Florida. They also come from 33 other states and 23 countries, including Argentina, Brazil, China, Guatemala, Italy, Peru, Uganda and more. Commencement speaker Surratt originally planted Seacoast Church with the goal of reaching unchurched people in Charleston, South Carolina. Under his leadership, the church grew from meeting in a movie theater to being one of the first in the world to pioneer the multi-site approach to the weekend experience. Currently, Seacoast has a dozen campuses throughout South Carolina and North Carolina, as well as a large online community. In addition to founding Seacoast, Surratt co-founded the Association of Related Churches, a global church-planting initiative that has established over 1,000 churches worldwide since its founding in 2000. He also founded The Pastors Collective to address the growing mental health crisis for pastors. The ceremony is open to graduates and ticketed guests and will be livestreamed at https://seu.edu/academics/graduation/live/. This release can also be found on the SEU Blog.
