If asked what the best part about Lakeland is, what would you say? Working, playing and exploring Lakeland is our job at Explore LKLD. What we hear from our visitors is that one of the top reasons they love our city boils down to the plethora of green spaces they can explore. The beautiful parks and nature spaces have been curated for residents and visitors’ pleasure. As the season arrives with cooler temperatures, we challenge you to engage with the many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
Dust your bike off and explore the different routes and trails in Lakeland. You can bike the Lake-to-Lake bikeways, the scenic lakes and the downtown routes. The city offers four free self-serve bike repair stations at the following locations: Dixieland Dobbins Park, Downtown Main Street Parking Garage, Lake Hollingworth Boat Ramp Park Lot, Simpson Park, and Three Parks Trail at the southeast corner of New Jersey & Glendale. In these locations you will find a universal air pump, repair stands for quick adjustment and scannable QR codes are available with tutorials for troubleshooting repairs.
If you prefer to immerse yourself in nature, then head for Lakeland’s parks, trails and nature preserves. Bonnet Springs Park would not disappoint as you can easily navigate the peaceful setting on wheels; the Fort Fraser Trail is another route that promises a healthy workout. You can also head out to Circle B Nature Preserve or simply check a park near you.
“The City of Lakeland was designated a bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists in 2012 for its commitment to cycling as a means of recreation and as a mode of transportation. Lakeland is now among the few localities in Florida who have achieved such a level of recognition”. (lakelandgov.net)
