Swamp Walks

Participate in a guided swamp walk and learn about why the Green Swamp and cypress domes/strands are so critically important to central Florida and to Colt Creek State Park. Experience the history of the logging industry in Colt Creek State Park, and enjoy a part of the park very few people see. This event is limited to a maximum of 10 people per time slot.

NOTE: You WILL get wet and dirty as this walk will take you through a water-filled cypress dome and ends with a trek through pine flats. Wear long sleeves, long pants, hat and appropriate hiking shoes (no sandals, open shoes or waders). Sneakers are recommended. Water levels could be up to three feet, with submerged logs and cypress knees, mud and other hazards. Sunscreen, bug spray, hiking sticks, water and snacks strongly recommended. Put any items you don't want to get wet into secure waterproof bags.

Requirements for this event:

- Must have the ability to follow visual and/or verbal instructions independently or with the assistance of a companion.

- Must have the ability to withstand exposure to the outdoors in shaded and unshaded areas for a period of up to three hours.

- Must have the ability to traverse a variety of surface terrains, including sandy, muddy, rough and wet terrain for up to four miles. Must be able to lift your legs to knee height, step over logs and other obstacles and navigate other hazards, including submerged logs, cypress knees, rocks and plants.

- Must be able to withstand exposure to insects, including mosquitos.

This event is free with park admission. Entrance fees are $4 per vehicle up to 8 people. The 1:30 group will be meeting at the Blue Heron Pavilion area at 1:15 pm.
