Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Bartow High’s Phase Two Modernization (Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m.)

Polk County Public Schools will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony this evening (Jan. 18) to celebrate the completion of the phase two modernization of Bartow High’s campus.

The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. at 1270 S. Broadway Ave. in Bartow.

News media are invited to attend. RSVPs are not necessary; however, they’re appreciated for planning purposes. You can RSVP by emailing jason.geary@polk-fl.net.

News media and other guests can drive to Bartow High’s administration building at the intersection of Tharp Street and South Broadway Avenue, where they will be directed to available parking.

Over the last several years, more than $60 million has been invested to complete Bartow High’s masterplan. This ambitious project would not have been possible without the school district’s half-cent sales tax referendum, which was renewed by Polk County voters in 2018 and is critical for school construction and improvements.

The first phase — completed in 2019 — cost about $17.5 million and included new space for the school’s Science and Technology Building, Culinary Arts Academy and Construction Academy.

The project’s final stage (phase two) was completed last year, and cost $42.9 million. Aging buildings were demolished to make way for improved classrooms and facilities, including a renovated Public Service Academy, new Athletic Field House and School Clinic, and an expanded Music Suite.

The BHS Studio-B Fine Arts Academy suite is the first of its kind to integrate a professional recording studio in the building.  The building is now a state-of-the-art recording studio, using technology to produce a product like no other music education facility in Polk County. The recording studio has become a reality thanks to the generous contributions and guidance from the Wallace family, Mosaic, Citrus Air Conditioners, the GiveWell Foundation, Blanton Foundation, and Ben Stewart.

NOTE: Guests who join us early are also invited to the dedication of BHS Veterans Memorial. The brief dedication will take place at 5 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the Athletic Field House located on the west end of the BHS Track. The BHS Veterans Memorial renovation project was funded by Legacy Next and the BHS Athletic Boosters.
