UF/IFAS Extension Polk County May Activities

Here is a list of May activities being hosted by UF/IFAS Extension Polk County, which is a partnership between the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) and the Polk County Board of County Commissioners.

• Get Healthy for Life, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on May 2, May 16 and May 30
  • Hands-on cooking experiences that will teach you how to: Be Well, Eat Well, and Shop Well!. Ingredients will be provided at no cost to you. To register and learn more, visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/560783567747

• Backpacking 101, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 2 and 4
  • Learn the basics of backpacking and wilderness hiking in Florida in this two-day classroom workshop. Get more information and register at www.eventbrite.com/e/547812541057/ Cost $15, includes hands-on training and backcountry cooking samples.

• Lakeland Learn & Grow: Water Conservation with Rain Barrels, 6 to 7 p.m. on May 2
  • Join UF/IFAS Extension Polk County and Lakeland Water Utilities for a class with tips to save water and reduce stormwater runoff by incorporating a rain barrel in your landscape. The $25 registration fee includes one rain barrel. There is a free ticket option for those not wanting a rain barrel. Register at: www.rainbarrelsmay2023.eventbrite.com.

• Med (Mediterranean) Instead of Meds, 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. on May 3 and May 24
  • Interested in eating the Mediterranean way, but not sure where to start?   This class will help! Register at www.polkfcs.eventbrite.com for $25.

• The Business of Farming Workshop (Day 2), 5:30 to 8 p.m. on May 4

• Leave No Trace: Wilderness Ethics for Summer Vacations (WEBINAR), 12:05 – 1 p.m. on May 12

• Basic Backyard Chicken Workshop, 5:30 to 8 p.m. on May 25

• Med Instead of Meds (online-evening class), 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 25
